Commission on Advanced Religious Education (CARE)

Advancing Excellence in Faith, Scholarship, and Formation

The African Episcopal Church (AEC) proudly announces the establishment of the Commission on Advanced Religious Education (CARE), which is  the official educational and accrediting arm of the Church, dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of excellence in Christian education, theology, and ministerial formation throughout the Communion.

CARE serves as both a sanctioning and accrediting body for parochial, secondary, collegiate, and theological institutions operating under the ecclesiastical authority of the AEC.

Its mission is simple yet profound: to ensure that every AEC-affiliated educational institution reflects the Church’s commitment to sound doctrine, academic integrity, cultural authenticity, and spiritual transformation.

Our Mission

CARE exists to uphold the educational vision of the African Episcopal Church by:

  • Establishing and maintaining standards of accreditation for secondary and post-secondary parochial education.

  • Supporting institutions that embody biblical fidelity, Afro-Episcopal identity, and academic excellence.

  • Accrediting and certifying seminaries, colleges, and diocesan institutes committed to ministerial and theological formation.

  • Providing oversight, mentorship, and evaluation to ensure quality education rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

  • Promoting unity between faith and scholarship, ensuring that education within the AEC remains both theologically orthodox and culturally relevant.

Educational Vision

Grounded in the rich heritage of the African Christian experience, CARE promotes a philosophy of education that unites faith, intellect, and culture.

It encourages the development of leaders who are not only well-trained academically but also deeply rooted in Scripture, tradition, and community service.

CARE partners with institutions such as Metropolitan Christian University, MidWestern School of Divinity, and other Afro-Episcopal theological colleges to expand opportunities for quality religious education throughout the African diaspora.

Scope and Authority

The Commission operates under the canonical authority of the Presiding Archbishop and Primate, with oversight by the House of Bishops.
CARE accredits:

  • Parochial and Secondary Schools

  • Bible Colleges and Institutes of Christian Education

  • Theological Seminaries and Graduate Schools of Divinity

Institutions accredited by CARE are granted official ecclesiastical recognition and the right to display the Seal of the African Episcopal Church, affirming their status as trustworthy centers of learning and faith.

Areas of Accreditation

CARE’s comprehensive accreditation process evaluates:

  1. Doctrinal Integrity – Adherence to Scripture and AEC theological standards.

  2. Academic Excellence – Curriculum design, faculty credentials, and learning outcomes.

  3. Cultural Contextualization – Integration of African and diaspora perspectives in education.

  4. Spiritual Formation – Commitment to prayer, worship, and ministry development.

  5. Administrative Integrity – Transparency, governance, and institutional sustainability.

“Study to show thyself approved unto God…”
2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)

Through CARE, the African Episcopal Church affirms that Christian education is a sacred ministry, forming not only scholars, but servants of Christ, leaders of integrity, and stewards of the Gospel for generations to come.
